Prescription for the Arts
magine a world where, instead of just prescribing pills, doctors could prescribe a ticket to a concert, a dance class, or a painting session to treat mental health challenges like isolation, depression, and anxiety. Undiscovered Earth’s new program, Prescription for the Arts, is pioneering this innovative approach right here in Colorado, launching the state's first program of its kind in partnership with Pediatrics of Steamboat Springs.
This program empowers doctors to prescribe meaningful arts experiences to youth under 18, providing a measurable and scalable alternative to traditional treatments. Research has shown that engaging in the arts can significantly improve overall health and well-being by boosting serotonin and dopamine levels—chemicals in the brain that promote happiness and reduce stress. Arts activities also equip young people with lifelong coping tools, helping them manage emotions and build resilience.
With roots in the UK, where it’s already transforming the lives of over 3,000,000 people, this initiative is backed by studies from leading institutions like Harvard and Stanford. We’re excited to bring this proven, holistic approach to mental health to our community, making a lasting impact on the well-being of our youngest generations. – Can link to PrescriptionForTheArts.org website
Wildhorse Cinemas
In 2024, Undiscovered Earth took over the lease for Wildhorse Cinemas with the vision of transforming the space into a dynamic community hub that goes beyond a traditional movie theater. This six-plex venue will not only screen current popular films but also curate classic movies, community-selected films, and youth-driven cinema, making it a vibrant gathering space for all ages. The theater will host a wide range of events, from local film showcases to community celebrations. Within the year, Undiscovered Earth plans to open a speakeasy within the complex, offering a cozy, intimate space for jazz, live music, and small-scale theatrical and dance performances, further enriching the cultural fabric of Northwest Colorado.
All Arts Week
All Arts Week elevates arts and culture in Northwest Colorado, showcasing the region's creative spirit each summer through a week-long festival. In 2024, the program brought together over 30 arts organizations and more than 100 artists for dynamic performances, artist studio tours, live art creation, literary readings, workshops, and community gatherings. This immersive experience not only highlights the diversity and richness of the local arts scene but also provides direct financial support to participating artists and organizations, fostering a thriving creative community. Through All Arts Week, the region comes alive with creativity, engaging residents and visitors in a shared cultural experience.
